School Camps and Outdoor Activities in the Wellington Region
If you're a teacher or school administrator, discover for yourself why so many teachers bring their students back to Silverstream Retreat year after year for their school camps. Silverstream Retreat is the perfect base to encourage learning outside the classroom.
Silverstream Retreat specialises in Wellington City visits as well as on-site activities. Many schools use us as a base to visit Wellington each day, while others stay and do activities on site, or have a mixture of both.
Students can challenge themselves with on-site activities such as archery, tennis, netball, cricket or rugby. Additionally, we have a challengescourse where students can learn orienteering skills, encourage team building on the tyre or rope challenge or study and enjoy nature on a bush walk.
Alternatively, children can visit and learn from many of the historic places of significance, including the seat of Parliament and Petone Settlers Museum, or visit the interactive learning centres in Wellington City such as Te Papa, Capital E, the Zoo or the City and Sea Museum.
We are confident a school camp at Silverstream Retreat is worthwhile for the students and teachers alike.

class time and recreation
There are numerous seminar rooms available around the Retreat which are ideal for smaller groups or as breakout rooms. We also have a recreation hall and other facilities to help keep the children occupied during free time periods.
Evening Options
Enjoy our Barn Experience - a great fun evening of Line Dancing lead by an experienced teacher. Upper Hutt (seven minutes drive) has the famous H²O Xtream adventure pool complex. This comes very highly recommended and makes an excellent evening activity if you can schedule it into your programme.
Dining
Our Hospitality Manager, can design a menu to suit your School and budget. The Manager is supported by a professional front of house team who take pride in making your school camp a memorable success.
We have two main dining rooms that Silverstream Retreat staff use when catering for your school.
Our professional team makes your job much easier because we do all the meal preparation and wash the dishes. We only ask for your participation in clearing the tables and assisting with dishing out the meals. We offer a buffet format and are easily able to cater for any specific dietary requirements.
As many schools often choose to go off-site to enjoy the Wellington City experience, we also prepare cut lunches.
The catering package includes dinner, breakfast and lunch from our standard menu. Tea, coffee and Milo are also available, at anytime. If you would like biscuits/cakes etc. for supper we recommend you bring these with you.
bedding
Pillows and mattresses are provided. However, each person is required to provide their own pillowcases, bedding and toiletries.

bus drivers
If you are travelling from out of town by bus we can provide separate fully serviced accommodation in one of our apartment style motels for the bus driver/s at no charge.
